At The Cardiovascular Center, with locations in Lake Mary and Deltona, four board-certified cardiologists and a highly trained, personable staff will make your office visit smooth and easy. With a host of state-of-the-art technologies, including new PET cardiac imaging, there’s less necessity than ever to visit the hospital for outpatient procedures.
“Our expertise is in the field of cardiovascular medicine,” explains Dr. William David, one of the center’s four physicians. “We actually pride ourselves on the fact that we’re well-rounded physicians who perform both basic non-invasive cardiology as well as invasive/interventional therapy.”
The doctors have full staff privileges at Central Florida Regional Hospital, so patients can rest assured that if they need surgery or hospitalization, they’ll be taken care of by the same skilled physicians with whom they have already established a relationship.
“We’ve been in the community since 1987 and we feel we have a state-of-the-art outpatient facility,” explains Dr. David. “We were early adopters of electronic medical records, which increased our efficiency. We see patients in a relatively short period of time and make them comfortable in an outpatient setting as opposed to the hospital.
“In years past, you had to go to the hospital for an echocardiogram or a stress test,” Dr. David continues. “Today, in our practice, we have all these different modalities in the office setting, not only helping to expedite patient evaluation, but making it very convenient for our patients.”
Among the technologies offered in the center are echocardiograms, carotid ultrasounds, 24-hour Holter monitoring and nuclear stress testing. “We are also one of a few free-standing cardiac practices in Seminole County to offer PET cardiac imaging,” Dr. David said. “The beauty of PET stress imaging is that it is completed in one visit, has less radiation exposure to patients and reduces both false positive and false negative results. We feel this will be the new paradigm in cardiac stress imaging.”
The Cardiovascular Center also offers Enhanced External Counterpulsation, or EECP, which is used on patients with angina or advanced coronary artery disease not amenable to angioplasty or surgery. “These pneumatic pressure cuffs are applied to the patients’ lower extremities,” explains Dr. David. “They push blood back to the heart with each cycle of the heartbeat. This helps the heart build up collateral circulation, which in turn reduces anginal symptoms in most patients.”
You don’t have to have significant heart disease in order to visit the Cardiovascular Center. The physicians there handle all levels of cardiac care, from treatments for high blood pressure to advanced cardiovascular disease.
“As we’ve established our predominance, a lot of our patients come to us through word of mouth,” Dr. David says. “They say, ‘You took care of my neighbor or my friend. I want to see what you can do for me.’ ”
It’s no wonder. With prestigious accreditations through ICANL (Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories) and ICAEL (Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories) and with fully board-certified physicians, The Cardiovascular Center is not only appealing to patients and primary-care physicians, but also to insurers, who look at accreditations when deciding which physician practices to offer in their plans.
