Heathrow Chiropractic: Dream Come True

Lake Mary chiropractic office is dream come true for Mark Pegan

Dr. Mark Pegan

If walking into Heathrow Chiropractic in Lake Mary gives you an instant feeling of familiarity and belonging, there’s a reason why. Its founder and chief chiropractor, Dr. Mark Pegan, grew up in Lake Mary, graduated from Seminole High School and dreamed of opening a practice in his old neighborhood.

Lake Mary is home. Pegan’s parents, sister, nieces, aunt and grandmother all live here. He has lifelong friends who are still in the area and he’s involved with the sports programs at several local high schools.

And now you can be family too, because that’s how Pegan thinks of his patients – as an extension of his own family. He schedules ample time with each patient, believes in getting to know people personally and doesn’t like to keep patients waiting.

“I feel like 60 percent of the diagnosis comes from getting to know the patient,” Pegan says. “If I don’t know your hobbies, what you eat, what you do, I don’t know you as a whole and I can’t properly diagnose you.

“At many of the other practices in the area, you get a quick adjustment and you’re out the door, almost like an assembly line,” he adds. “But here, we focus on all aspects of your health. You’ll have a lot of face time with me personally, because I feel that’s one of the most important pieces of my job.”

Pegan, whose practice has some of the newest and most up-to-date equipment in the area, also offers his patients weight loss, nutrition, supplementation, medical massage services and rehabilitation for sports and auto accident injuries.

“We focus on the body as a whole rather than just an individual’s symptoms,” Pegan says. “That is important in protecting the body, protecting the core and preventing degeneration from setting in.”

Heathrow Chiropractic offers state-of-the-art tables and brand-new technology, Pegan says. It’s also one of the only practices in Central Florida to offer two of the latest treatments: spinal decompression, a traction technique that relieves pressure on discs and nerves; and flexion-distraction therapy, a gentle, more generalized traction treatment.

And while some people believe that seeing a chiropractor is only necessary if you have back problems or have been in an accident, Pegan says an office visit should become part of everyone’s routine. In fact, most insurance plans cover an annual chiropractic visit.

“Think of it like going to the dentist to get your teeth cleaned,” Pegan says. “Regular visits to your dentist help to prevent cavities later on, just like regular visits to a chiropractor help to prevent back and neck problems later on.

“Come in for a checkup or wellness visit, just to see how you are.”

Some people are wary of chiropractors because they worry about how their bodies will take the adjustment. But Pegan caters to every condition and comfort level. For those who have chiropractic fears, he promises to be extra gentle and assess their comfort every step of the way.

“Some people are afraid of the cracks and pops they’ve heard about,” he says. “But we have other ways to do things. We’ll keep you comfortable.”

He also uses special techniques – including special adjustment instruments -- on clients who are more medically fragile, such as seniors with osteoporosis.

“This was always my dream to come back to Lake Mary,” Pegan says. “And now I’m here. I hope you’ll come visit too.”
